February Signing Day list: Where Nashville-area athletes are heading for college | Davidson | mainstreetpreps.com

National Signing Day has become a day of competition and celebration. Of course, many signings occur during the early signing period, in December. However, National Signing Day wraps things up, and leaves us with a clear picture of the teams that performed the best, and the worst.

Pierre Ingram is a former Division 1 player with 13 years of coaching experience. He’s here with his thoughts on National Signing Day 2022, and what you can expect in the upcoming season.

National Signing Day 2022

National Signing Day occurs on the first Wednesday in February, and gives high school seniors the opportunity to sign a letter of intent. There’s an early signing period in December, so deals don’t only happen on signing day.

Still, signing day allows us to get a full picture of what the rosters look like. There’s always a few surprises, as competition for the best players is fierce.

Texas A&M

Texas A&M built the highest rated recruiting class in sports history, according to 247Sports. Their biggest victory was Shemar Stewart, according to Pierre Ingram. Stewart hailed from Florida. He was ranked in the National Top 10, and was a five star prospect.

A&M also signed Walter Nolen, Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy and Anthony Lucas. Four star safety from Louisiana, Jacoby Matthews, also joined the team.

Jackson State

Jackson State, and coach Dion Sandars, made big news on Wednesday. He flipped Travis Hunter, the number one recruit in the country. Hunter just ended a 21 month commitment to Florida, surprising everyone with the flip.

Hunter is a wide receiver and a cornerback. He just led his high school team, Collins Hill High School to a state championship.

Oregan State University

It’s Dan Lanning’s first year coaching the ducks, and he’s off to a great start, according to Pierre Ingram. Lanning flipped 4 star running back Jordan James from Georgia. They beat Miami to sign Dave Luli, which is sure to pay dividends. They also signed Justius Lowe, who flipped from Utah.

Oklahoma State University

OSU recruited Lincolm Riley, and Floridian Jamarrien Burt. They snagged R Mason Thomas, another Florida native, from Iowa State, despite a hometown offer from the Miami Hurricanes.

Georgia State

Pierre Ingram notes that Georgia won the national championship, which put any doubts about Kirby Smart to rest. Smart led the Bulldogs to their first national title in 40 years. Georgia did most of it’s signing in December.

On signing day, they kept four star defensive lineman Christen Miller. They lost Jordan James to Oreon, however.
