Bajaj is a familiar name to Indians. Even before the Bajaj bikes became popular, the brand was associated with sturdy scooters, which were a rage in the past. As those heavy scooters gave way to light and gearless versions, Bajaj forayed into hitherto untested waters of motorcycle making. Soon, the brand name Bajaj began to be associated with high performing, low cost, fuel efficient two-wheelers – mostly bikes.
However, the real turning point in the history of the company was when the Pulsar series of bikes were introduced by them. Until the Pulsar came along, sports bikes in India were the privilege of a selected few. With the introduction of Pulsar, that changed and more and more people could afford to buy a sports bike of their own.
As the brand became popular, the company introduced different variants of the bike in varying capacities like 135 cc, 150 cc, 180 cc, 200 cc and 220 cc among others. All these variants were enthusiastically received by the buyers. Now, Bajaj is gearing up for the launch of another super power bike, the Bajaj Pulsar 200 SS.
The Pulsar 200 SS is a fully faired version of its predecessor, the Pulsar 200 NS. This new bike has been designed as a compact sports bike with features like clip-on handlebars, muscular tank, split seats, alloy wheels, standard telescopic suspension at the front and mono shock at the rear. Other features include twin projector headlamps, small-side slung exhaust, and a NS 200 inspired plastic splatter guard, to list some. The design cues on this bike are heavily borrowed from the Pulsar 400 NS, which was displayed at the Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year.
The engine that powers the Bajaj Pulsar 200 SS will be the same ones that do the duty on the naked bike Pulsar 200 NS. Hence, the new bike will also have the same 200 cc engine, which is capable of churning a top power of 23 bhp and a peak torque of 18 Nm. However, it is expected that on the Pulsar 200 SS, this power mill be fine-tuned to generate more power and to bear the addition weight of the fairing.
Once it is launched, the Pulsar 200 SS will be the first ever fully faired bike from Bajaj.
Although it will be a value for money kind of a bike, the Bajaj Pulsar 200 SS will have a premium price attached to it. As such, it will carry a price to the upwards of one lakh rupees. Once launched, the Pulasr 200 SS will compete with the likes of Yamaha R15 V 2.0, Honda CBR150R, KTM RC200 and the Hero Karizma ZMR among others for a space in the Indian market.
